The Gulustan Palace in Baku is a significant architectural landmark, embodying a blend of Soviet modernism with traditional Azerbaijani motifs. Constructed in 1980, the palace is perched on a hill, offering panoramic views of the city and the Caspian Sea.

The building’s exterior features clean, geometric lines typical of Soviet-era architecture, combined with local design elements like ornamental stone carvings and intricate patterns inspired by Azerbaijani culture.

Designed as a venue for state events and cultural performances, the Gulustan Palace remains a symbol of elegance and national pride in Baku.

The Heydar Aliyev Center building’s design contrasts starkly to the rectilinear architecture that surrounds it in Baku, Azerbaijan. At the same time, this cultural center takes inspiration from historic Islamic designs found in calligraphy and geometric patterns to create something entirely new. The building takes an open form to invite the public into its space.
