Designed by Chapman Taylor, Deniz Mall, the much-anticipated new retail, leisure and entertainment redevelopment concept for the former Entertainment Centre, has soft-opened to the public in central Baku, Azerbaijan.
Design: Zaha Hadid Architects featured in today’s Google Doodle – the design of this intriguing building is a departure from the rigid and often monumental architecture of the former Soviet Union that is so prevalent in Baku. Instead, the building aspires to express the sensibilities and diversity of Azeri culture.
The design of the Heydar Aliyev Center establishes a continuous, fluid relationship between its surrounding plaza and the building’s interior. The plaza, as the ground surface; accessible to all as part of Baku’s urban fabric, rises to envelop an equally public interior space and define a sequence of event spaces dedicated to the collective celebration of contemporary and traditional Azeri culture.

Broadway Malyan raises the bar with new National Gymnastics Arena in Azerbaijan
The iconic 9,000-seat National Gymnastics Arena in Baku, Azerbaijan, designed by global architecture, urbanism and design practice Broadway Malyan, has completed. The £120 m building is one of only a handful of bespoke gymnastics venues in the world.
Zira Zero Island is a 1,000,000 m2 master plan for a carbon neutral resort and residential development on Zira Island located along the Caspian Sea. As a young post-soviet democracy, Azerbaijan is rediscovering its national identity by imagining Zira Island as an architectural landscape based upon the country’s dramatic natural setting.
