New Houses in Sweden
We’ve selected what we feel are the key examples of Swedish Houses. We aim to include houses in Sweden that are either of top quality or interesting, or ideally both. We cover completed houses, new house designs, architectural exhibitions and architecture competitions across Sweden.

Tham & Videgård Arkitekter

The setting is the Stockholm archipelago, natural ground sloping gently down to the sea in the south, mostly open with a few trees and bushes. Unlike other projects we worked on located on more isolated islands in the archipelago without car access from the mainland, this site was relatively easy to reach also with heavy transports.

The client had split his garden city plot in two and moved the old house to the one. The other had a more embedded position, including a big old oak tree in the middle. The gross building allowance had to be fully exploited in order to create a large enough home for the growing family. The stipulated distance to the property line of course limited the positioning from the sides, while the desire to preserve the old oak tree blocked the middle.

Kloster Houses, western Sweden
Architect: Torsten Ottesjö

Kloster Properties
Residences located on a strip of land on the west coast of Sweden designed by Torsten Ottesjö. He selectively cut trees from the landscape to create a vision for what the rolling southern ends of the scandinavian fjords could look like. He wanted to open up the landscape to provide an experience, to selectively allow trees to flourish to over time create a place which accentuated the rolling characteristic of the landscape.

On the eastern part of the plot is a beautiful old stand of trees. The proposed movement in this project follows the principle often used in Japanese garden art; first you spot the main vista (the orchard), then it disappears out of view – but is not forgotten.

Ankerspelet Malmo
The interplay between the variedly displaced facades challenges and yet respects the general urban planning of the area, and creates a spatial filter and an articulated threshold between the private and the public space and the city and the open space of Øresund.
Archipelago House, Stockholm archipelago
Design: Tham & Videgård Hansson Architects

Archipelago House Stockholm
Conceived as a lightweight construction in wood and glass, this summerhouse is built in the outer Stockholm archipelago. The horizontal character of the black stained exterior relates to the verticals of tall grown pines and the mirrored views of the Baltic Sea.
