What to Look For in an Industrial Ice Machine

July 3, 2021

Do you have a restaurant? Maybe you’ve just opened or you’ve been running for a while but you’ve ventured into a new menu.

If that’s the case then you are maybe considering purchasing an industrial ice machine.

What to look for in an industrial ice machine

There are so many factors that play a role in determining the right ice machine that works best for you. The trickiest part is figuring out how to pick the correct amount of ice for the store. There is no need for help in choosing the best ice cream maker for your business. There’s also the machine itself and whether you need an industrial ice maker or something a little simpler.

Here’s everything you need to know about getting the right industrial ice machine for you.

What Industry? Know Your Clients

Depending on the industry, ice is used in many different places, especially for beverages. If drinks are the primary area in which you use ice cream, you need to consider how much you need for your industry.

Think about your busiest days, such as busy weekends and holidays, so you can prepare for the hustle and bustle of business. You can take this into account when assessing the ice that your company needs.

If you live in a hot area like Nevada or Arizona, you need an ice machine with more power to compensate for the loss in production. Heat can lower the production rate of ice machines, but it still works well to produce quantities of ice. You also have to consider how often you use the ice cream you need for drinks.

Outside the Food and Beverage Industry

There are many questions that your employees can answer about industrial ice machines. You might run a medical center and use ice to reduce swelling. Maybe the kitchen needs ice cream to prepare the food. Or maybe you have a bar and how much ice is needed to refill the bar.

If you run out of ice, it can be expensive, so get replacement ice from an ice cream delivery service. Delivery of ice cream can cost between $1 and $3 per 10 lbs and can take hours.

Ice Cube Maker Troubleshooting

If you want to choose the best ice maker, you need to understand what kind of ice cubes you need. Ice cubes come in all shapes and sizes, and some are not for aesthetic purposes. Some ice cubes are designed to support specific industries.

Remember if you want to make homemade ice cream to serve at your shop you are going to need a different machine and can’t rely on your own ice maker alone.

For example, many commercial ice chip manufacturers model and produce ice cubes that are soft and can be chewed, without people having issues with their teeth. Flake ice is malleable and is ideal for fish bars and the presentation of food.

A good ice maker needs the right place to work. If you choose an air-cooled machine that is the most popular model for businesses, you need enough room for ventilation.

A hot ice machine with low ice production can cause serious problems if problems persist. Air-cooled ice machines generate heat when running, and they emit heat through vents located throughout the device.

You want to install your Ice Machine in a big room with lots of ventilation and airflow.

Water Water Water

All ice machines need water. For this, you need to ensure proper drainage. If you have installed a modular, ice machine with containers and dispensers, you will need a drain built in to drain off excess water. You’re also going to need a good ice tray.

Depending on the machine model, ice machine dispensers can drain their excess water down the same drain via a sink nearby.

This sink requires an air gap to ensure that no water flows through the drain pipe into your ice machine. Some municipalities require air gaps when installing ice machines.

Power Issues

Depending on which ice machine you choose, you will need either an 11.5 V socket or a 22.0 V socket.

There is a good chance that you will need to call an electrician to install a socket that meets your needs. Hoshizaki advises against using sockets to which no GFCI circuit breaker is attached.

A GFCI socket without any kind of test or reset button causes the ice cream machine to shut down, which can cause long-lasting damage to the machine.

Water-cooled ice machines use a water-cooled condenser coil that influences the temperature of the air in the device. These are often the only option for companies with limited space and low ventilation.

Remote capacitors have installed their capacitor unit in the ice maker. Since the refrigerant is transported in one line, several condensing boiler units can be installed in a large interior with a lot of ventilation.

Water-cooled remote controls may seem like a more sustainable option, but they can get more expensive at certain times. If you live in a place with temperatures of 85 degrees, the machine needs more water to cool the condenser off.

Remote units require a contractor to cut through walls and ceilings. The initial set-up can be expensive but will pay for itself in the long run if you don’t mind cutting through your walls and ceilings.

Hiring an Industrial Ice Machine Can Be Great

Hiring an industrial ice machine can be a great addition to your business. They can provide your customers will cool drinks and keep them happy especially if you operate in a hot place.

However, there are several considerations in terms of an ice maker you should think about. These include the drainage and the power consumption of the machine itself.
