Waiatarua House: The brief was for a new house on a challenging, steep site in a bush clad creek gully. One of the design challenges was to insert a bold intervention into a sensitive bush reserve whilst still maintaining a sense of modesty and poetic.
This pristine contemporary home, Pearl Bay Residence is located on the west coast 90kms north of Cape Town – bordered by a nature reserve adjoining the ocean.
For something to be sustainable it has to be able to continue developing itself. Sustainable architecture is the result of continual dialogue with the client and the understanding of the influences of the context and the characteristics of the site.
The Aldea House’s site is located in front of a golf course. On the first visit to the site the amount of native trees that were in the place resulted very remarkable.
Sunshine Canyon Residence was, in a way, created by the Fourmile Canyon Fire of 2010. The owners, who lost their home in that fire, wanted to rebuild near their original home site. Embracing the beauty of the burned landscape, they chose a steeply sloped southern facing site, also burned by Fourmile fire.

Originally a single storey home, the brief for the additions and alterations of this home called for the modernizing of the house and adding a second storey to increase the areas to more than double its existing size.
Design: Greg Wolfson Interiors. I started with a very distressed property. The owner had bought it well below market as it was so ugly. Iron bars covered the windows, heavy drapes covered all the windows inside.
Design: Blouin Tardif Architecture Environnement. Tucked away in the heart of Plateau Mont-Royal, on the private lot of a former commercial building, are these Siamese residences. Each co-property occupies half of the lot; their entrances are, respectively, on Mentana and Boyer streets.
