DuPont Corian launches new DeepColour Technology at LDF 2013
Corian DeepColour Technology News
DuPont has launched a new initiative called “Endless Evolution” designed to capture and express the sense of continual innovation and limitless versatility that has characterised DuPont™ Corian® ever since its ground-breaking invention. In the UK at the London Design Festival 2013, as one of the first steps in this multi-year initiative, DuPont presented the first new colour for DuPont™ Corian® created with its innovative DeepColour™ Technology (patent pending).

DeepColour™ Technology enables DuPont to provide deeper, more intense and more durable hues, with easier fabrication and improved resistance to wear. Deep Nocturne, a profoundly rich, saturated and robust black, is the first product made with this ground breaking process.
The new colour was also used for the ‘Louvres’ Desk, a multi-faceted functional design piece created to represent the first point of contact for visitors to the Victoria & Albert museum during the London Design Festival 2013, for which DuPont™ Corian® was machined into a special finish created by Giles Miller Studio, a young team of designers fascinated by the manipulation of light and reflection in surfaces.
Taking classic louvre slats as inspiration, Giles Miller Studio has generated panels that have various levels of directional reflection inlaid into the surface. The panels interplay with the light depending on their orientation and the effect is beautifully fulfilled in this dazzling display of geometric reflection. The ‘depth’ of texture in the design is enhanced by the application of a Deep Nocturne – a profoundly dark, rich and robust shade of black that writes a fresh chapter in the surface design palette.
Other techniques used in the fabrication of the desk include the engraving of a 5axis CNC machined surface pattern onto individual ‘tiles’ made from DuPont™ Corian®, plus seamless joining to achieve the elegant curvature of the design for a sleek, ‘monolithic’ effect. The desk was positioned in the beautiful setting of the main foyer of the V&A, as an iconic emblem and focal point for information about the London Design Festival and it is intended to be re-used year after year.
DuPont™ Corian® is a high-tech surfacing material with a vast and inspiring range of applications that open up new horizons for design. With its sophisticated combination of beauty, durability and versatility, DuPont™ Corian® can be applied to almost any conceivable design scheme or sector, from interior to exterior and whether curved or angular, flat or textured, functional or decorative.
Endlessly evolving and embodying new technologies, DuPont™ Corian® offers genuine longevity and confidence in performance. Available in over 80 colours, DuPont™ Corian® can be shaped into virtually any conceivable design and is joined seamlessly to create sleek, strong, hygienic and easy-care surfaces.
