Design: Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. The recent inauguration of Mumbai airport’s new state-of-the-art T2 terminal reveals an impressive engineering and architectural achievement. The newly opened Terminal 2 building at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, is designed by the New York office of architectural firm SOM and built by India-based conglomerate GVK Power & Infrastructure Ltd.
Design: Tony Owen Partners. The Jade apartment tower has just been completed in the centre of Sydney’s CBD. The 15-storey tower consists of 27 one, two and three-bedroom apartments, plus double-level penthouses with vaulted glass ceilings. The building faces north yet it has a fully glazed façade.
SCI-Arc has traditionally relied on erecting temporary graduation pavilions in its parking lot. But in 2012 they staged a competition to design a permanent structure. The winning team, P-A-T-T-E-R-N-S, came up with a dramatic space that completely transforms the downtown architecture school’s campus and the surrounding Arts District.
Design: Lassila Hirvilammi Architects. RE-CREATION: TWO-PART INSTALLATION NOW COMPLETE. The second part of Re-Creation, an installation by Lassila Hirvilammi Architects, was completed at the Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale for Urbanism and Architecture (UABB) in January.
Design: BURO II & ARCHI+I Expansion of Nijvel’s Municipal Crèche. This project consists of expanding the ‘Children of the World’ crèche at Nij vel. The building is located in a park setting of rural significance, the Dodaine park.
Design: Petros N. Zouzoulas, Architects
The Kapetas Villa is set in the scenic valley of modern day Sparta, Greece. The primary focus of the project was to capture the stunning views of the valley and mountains while capitalizing on passive solar and passive cooling strategies and to create a warm and comfortable home for a young Greek family.
Design: Jean-Charles Covarel. Location: Val d’Isere, Espace Killy mountain range, French Alps. A brand new 7 bedroom chalet, with 609 sqm (6,555 sq ft) of living space, designed and built by Jean-Charles Covarel, complete 32 sqm swimming pool and full array of wellness facilities.
Design: Horizon Design Studio. The brief for this project was to design a house for Mr Ved Prakash and his small family of two. Mr. Ved Prakash wanted to build his house keeping the ancient Hindu tradition, philosophy and “Vastu Shastra” (ancient science of Indian architecture) as basic principal and reflecting that in his house.
The main design idea has been based on “A living process narrative in central plateau of Iran”. Due to the existence of two mountain range of Alborz in north and Zagros in West of Iran, The main portion of the country consists of arid and semi arid deserts. From several thousand years ago, the Iranians were in search of ways to live in such arid region of the world.
Design: Tectoniques Architectes. A new building on the site of the former Drocourt Coking Plant Building, northern France. After a call for ideas addressed to the local residents, the Maison de l’Environnement et du Développement Durable (Centre for the Environment & Sustainable Development) of the Hénin-Carvin Joint Urban Authority adopted the name Aquaterra.
Design: Foster + Partners, Architects. Designs evealed for the United Arab Emirates pavilion at the 2015 Milan Expo. Bringing the planning principles of the traditional desert city to Milan, the pavilion’s interior of self-shaded streets evokes the experience of the UAE’s ancient communities, while demonstrating the natural energy efficiency of their compact urban form.
Design: Mather & Co. The new International Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland has opened. The museum has three floors of permanent exhibition galleries. Mather & Co developed the narrative and themes and 3D designs of all the museum spaces. The building is the largest centre dedicated to telling the story of the Olympic Movement.
The Cushman & Wakefield consortium announces that it has been selected as the winner of the contest organized by the Russia Geographic Society and Moscow Region Government for the Masterplan and Business Strategy for the development of Park Russia. Park Russia is an ambitious tourism and cultural project on over 1,000 hectares and 30 km south of Moscow near Domodedovo airport.
Design: M3H architecten. Amsterdam’s Staatsliedenbuurt is a former working-class neighbourhood with a great deal of social housing that was established in about 1900. The architectural quality of the original buildings often left much to be desired, and many of the old buildings have been replaced. M3H built a housing project earlier in this area, on Van Beuningen Street.
