Lifestyle Travel: How to Travel and Work from Anywhere in the World
7 June 2023
Do you ever feel like you need a change of scenery? Maybe you’ve been working the same job for years and feel stuck in a rut. Or perhaps you just want to see the world and experience new cultures. If so, lifestyle travel may be suitable for you! Lifestyle travel is a way of life that allows you to work from anywhere in the world. You can become location independent, travel wherever you want, and still make money. How cool is that?
You could live and work in North Africa, the Middle East, Japan, Thailand, or anywhere in Asia. You could potentially visit anywhere and hike in nature, surf in paradise, and explore new places in your free time. The travel lifestyle accommodates a healthy balance of work, wellness and leisure activities. This blog post will discuss how lifestyle travel works and how you can achieve it!
What is a travel lifestyle?
A travel lifestyle is when you make traveling a priority in your life. This can mean different things for different people. For some, it may mean taking extended trips to new places. Others may choose to live in multiple countries throughout the year. And still, others may even choose to permanently relocate to another country! No matter your definition of lifestyle travel, the main thing is that travel is seen as a lifestyle, not a vacation.
Lifestyle travel has taken off in the last few decades due to the internet enabling people to work from anywhere. Perhaps you have heard the term digital nomad? These modern-day nomads move from one place to the next, funding their travel lifestyle, usually from online work. As such, they typically need a laptop and a reliable wifi connection to enable their travel. According to Forbes, in 2020 alone, the number of digital nomads in the US doubled to 11 million. It’s fair to say that the pandemic accelerated the trend.
As the digital nomad movement grows, so are new businesses to keep up with the demand. These include co-working spaces, co-living accommodations, and even residential ships designed for living and working remotely. These arrangements allow digital nomads to connect, network, and alleviate feelings of loneliness, which is essential for emotional well-being. And as digital nomads often travel solo, many companies and websites now offer group tours, trips, and leisure time for those wanting to explore with others and make friends.
So how can you become a lifestyle traveler?
If you’re interested in becoming a lifestyle traveler, there are a few things you need to do. First, you need to save up some money. This will give you a cushion to fall back on if you have any unexpected expenses while on the road. Second, you need to research your destination(s). Make sure you know what the cost of living is like and whether or not there are good job prospects.
However, one of the best ways to sustain lifestyle travel is to become location independent in your work. This can be done in several ways. Perhaps you are already self-employed or work remotely? If so, then you’re ahead of the game! If not, there are still many options available to you. You could freelance, start your own online business, or even find a job that allows you to work remotely.
Popular location-independent skills include:
- Graphic design
- Content writer
- SEO Specialist
- Digital Marketing
- Social media marketing
- Software Developer
- Website developer
- Stock trader
Do your own research
And more! The key is to determine your strengths and align them with your own research of jobs you can do online. Then, you need to apply yourself and learn those skills. Next, you must either source work as a freelancer or secure a job that allows you to work remotely. Easier said than done; however, if you want it bad enough and genuinely commit, you can achieve it. The reward is the lifestyle travel, leisure activities, and freedom you’ve always dreamed of!
The first step is you need to take the plunge! Sometimes, the sink or swim approach can be the best.
