13th of January 2011 – Creativity and innovation meet design, Disney meets DuPont™ Corian® at next Milan week of design (11-17 April 2011), the most important venue for interior design professionals around the world. DuPont and Disney will showcase “TRON designs CORIAN®”, an exhibition inspired by the film “TRON: Legacy” from Walt Disney Studios, which has been released in The United Kingdom and in Ireland as of December 17, 2010 (with a premiere in London on December 5, 2010).
The overall effect and expression of “TRON: Legacy” has inspired many artists and designers across fashion, music, design and technology. From the original Daft Punk soundtrack, to exclusive apparel and designer jewellery, to the brand-new videogame “TRON: Evolution”, the world of “TRON” has become a lifestyle phenomenon.
The “TRON designs CORIAN®” exhibition is an original project which will be art directed by DuPont and Disney and created using DuPont™ Corian® advanced surface for the overall lay-out and for a surprising scenography. In addition, under the guidance of Disney and DuPont, a series of leading and trendy companies, architects and designers will create fascinating interior design solutions and architectural forms, taking inspiration from “TRON: Legacy” and exploiting the versatility of DuPont™ Corian®.
DuPont has had an innovation-oriented presence at Milan week of design since the late ‘90s, sponsoring and organising many exhibitions featuring surprising and pioneering interpretations of DuPont™ Corian® high-tech surface conceived by architecture and design “maestros” like Ettore Sottsass, Marc Newson, Ross Lovegrove, Ron Arad, Zaha Hadid, Jean Nouvel, Amanda Levete Architects and Karim Rashid. DuPont™ Corian® has also increasingly been applied by dozens of world-class companies producing beautiful and advanced commercially available furnishing solutions for residential and public environments.
« Disney fosters imagination and DuPont shapes materials: we are extremely pleased to be working with a partner as creative and innovative as The Walt Disney Company and develop together with them an exhibition for an important venue like the Milan week of design. “TRON: Legacy” has been a wonderful source of inspiration: combined with the expertise of Disney and DuPont™ Corian® and the collaboration of imaginative architects, designers and companies, it will materialise into a unique, original and fresh exhibition that will surprise the demanding global audience of visitors to the Milan week of design.» says Tim McCann, president of DuPont Building Innovations.
Cecilia Tosting, Senior Vice-President and Country Manager of The Walt Disney Company Italia declares: « Collaborating with DuPont allows Disney to bring the cutting edge design of TRON to Milan week of design– which is the kind of creative initiative that keeps Italy at the forefront of the design world. This initiative really underscores the three strategic principles that underline The Walt Disney Company and our heritage: innovation, technology and creativity. »
Marc Low, Vice President, Fashion and Home, Europe at The Walt Disney Company, comments: « We’re excited that the unique landscape, high-tech and forward-thinking world of TRON has sparked such strong interest amongst the design community and been a positive source of inspiration. Our collaboration with DuPont™ Corian® is an innovative project that will bring the story of “TRON: Legacy” to life outside of the cinema in a highly creative way with concepts, art and design all inspired by the movie. We look forward to wowing audiences at Milan week of design.»
