CANactions Idea Competition + Workshop in Kiev, Ukraine. Maidan, among other things, has brought Ukrainians to the understanding that every city is being built by its citizens. We are the masters of our own destiny. Today’s events in Ukraine make us ponder on our history, public attitude, values, freedom, responsibility for our decisions, our lives and our surrounding.
With this competition, we venture to convert maximum energy generated by revolutionary wave to Urban Ideas.

Weekend House New York Residence

Design: David Jay Weiner. This project is a response to a client’s desire to build a small weekend house on an open clearing of a heavily wooded site with southern views overlooking the Berkshire Hills.

In the spirt of a Japanese kimono, the house is conceived as a single sweeping volumetric “sheet” enclosure that wraps and folds into itself to form and define two major interior spaces. The primary interior space is used for living, dining and study.

After four years of construction, the “House of Music” in Aalborg, Denmark was ceremoniously opened on March 29, 2014 by the Danish Queen Margrethe II.

This cultural centre was designed by the Viennese architectural studio Coop Himmelb(l)au as a combined school and concert hall: its open structure promotes the exchange between the audience and artists, and the students and teachers. “The idea behind the building can already be read from the outer shape. The school embraces the concert hall,” explained Wolf D. Prix, design principal and CEO of Coop Himmelb(l)au.

Design: BIG. This building is a 420 ft tall mixed-use observation tower to serve as a symbol for the city of Phoenix, Arizona. Located in downtown Phoenix, the 70,000 sf Observation Tower shall add a significant structure to the Phoenix skyline from which to enjoy the city’s spectacular views of the surrounding mountain ranges and dramatic sunsets. Phoenix-based developer Novawest, commissioned the team to create a destination event to provide tourists and citizens of Phoenix alike the chance to enjoy the unique features of the Valley of the Sun.

Architect: Foster + Partners – part of the AT&T Performing Arts Center, the new Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House in Dallas redefines the essence of an opera house for the twenty first century, breaking down barriers to make opera more accessible for a wider audience.
Responding to the Dallas climate, a generous solar canopy extends from the building, revealing below a fully glazed sixty foot high lobby. Beneath the canopy, a shaded pedestrian plaza creates a major new public space for the city.

With a modest budget an object building suspended within the basin was developed.

The renowned Housing Corporation Vanke invited NL Architects to work with them on a new urban typology for combining shops with SOHO’s.

Business Incubator Training Centre in Normandy

Design: h2o architectes. The EPF Normandie and the commune of Pont-Audemer wanted to convert the industrial site of an ancient paper factory into offices/workshops for different companies

The ancient paper factory is a symbol of an important part of the local working class memory. The architectural conversion suggested by the agency had three principle axis of development.

Parts of the scheme designed by Pilbrow & Partners include the Broadway Terrace Building in what will become Earls Court Village and a prominent building entitled The Prow.
