Crane Collapse in Hell’s Kitchen, New York City

At least six injured.

A construction crane sitting 45 stories atop a building in the Hell’s Kitchen neighbourhood of New York City caught fire and partially collapsed on Wednesday morning. Around 7.30am, a fire broke out on the arm of a crane located on a building under construction near Tenth Avenue and West 41st Street.

The recent tragic fire in New York underlines how fire remains a potent threat, despite advances in building design and construction and strict building regulations. Some 20 people, including nine children died during a fire in the Bronx apartment building. Another 32 people were taken to hospital, several of whom remain in a critical condition.
