3-6 Oct 2013
Venue: Palazzo dei Congressi, Roma, Italia
The Mediterranean FabLab waiting for you from 3 to 6 of October 2013 at Maker Faire Rome, the largest exhibition in the world dedicated to the innovation, creativity and enterprise. Follow us between exhibitors! We exhibit design objects in cardboard and we hold workshops and activities oriented towards makers and fans present at the faire.
At Piazzale Kennedy Palazzo dei Congressi you will also find our installation, Cocoon EVO, the pavilion in Etalbond of 600x600x320 cm composed of 360 hexagonal pieces, all different from each other. Cocoon EVO is the result of a research and experimentation undertaken by the Mediterranean FabLab in partnership with Co-de.it and the companyTekla srl. which has allowed the prototyping and production of the pavilion.
Friday, October the 4th, from 15:00 o’ clock, we will also be present at the “Techgarage – The business of making” the final stage of the Tour Barcamper Makers who crossed Europe and Italy in search of innovative business ideas in the field of Makers. Our project has been selected among the 10 best enterprise projects! At the Maker Faire we’ll present our idea in front of experts, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, journalists, bloggers, institutional representatives and academics.
DigitalMed Summer School – VI edition
DIGITALMED WORKSHOP IV EDITION
SMART: INTERACTION BETWEEN PEOPLE /CITIES/ENVIRONMENT
SUBJECT:
The Summer School digitalMed’s fourth edition is a planning laboratory directed to investigate subjects, operations and techniques that affect the current international architectural panorama.
The subject of this edition focuses on the investigation of interactions between the environment and the human being, made through objects, mechanisms and architectures able to interact with who makes use of them. The aim of digitalMed IV is drawing a catalogue of projects/prototypes to insert them in an urban context, and to outline new future-cities profile.
DATES:
22-28 Jul 2013
PURPOSES AND TERMS:
The digitalMed Summer School IV edition aims to organize the flows of information, in which the city is absorbed, to adapt projects and to make them useful, no invasives, and suitable to establish an information exchange. The concepts of slow cities and smart cities are directed by all types procedures, from immaterial to materia, from information to the built. This is the iter that we will follow to reinvent the relationship between man, environment and cities.
Through learning by-doing educational procedure, participants will acquire not only new metodologies and means, but also concrete cases where testing these ones. In this way, new acquired information won’t remain simple educational exercises, but will be notable elements in the portfolio participants.
TOPICS:
The planning approach of digitalMed Summer School IV edition will supply to participants all the technic knowledges and theoretical bases in order to work.
The first days of workshop will focus on the outline of a shared vocabulary that allows to work from shared meanings. This phase is characterized by subjects occurring in the contemporary architecture such as computational design, digital fabrication and data driven, then systems, like Arduino, which allow the interaction with objects, and fields like permaculture and social innovation that nowadays contribute to the realignment of environment and city’ ideas.
The participants will have the opportunity to learn the use of software for the parametric planning, like Grasshopper, and to test interactions between real information and virtual data (and viceversa) through the use of Arduino.

Cardboard Pavilion Exhibition
“CARDBOARD PAVILION COMES ALIVE AT MARTE
– AUDIOVISUAL LIBRARY OF CAVA DE’ TIRRENI”
from 4 Jun 2013
Three intense days are happening under the sign of digital fabrication at Mediterranean Fab Lab of Cava de’ Tirreni. From the 4th to the 6th of June, the pavilion installation is taking shape. The self-standing cardboard structure was created during the Gh_to_fabrication workshop, organized by Mediterranean Fab Lab in collaboration with Mediterranean Academy of Architecture, Computation Design Italy e CRTS srl Cartotecnica.
The emergent cardboard pavilion is the result of 4-days workshop in May, in which participants projected the self-standing wave cardboard structure thanks to tutors Amleto Picerno Ceraso and Andrea Graziano’s help.
The workshop aspired to give a planning process that started from data articulation, crossing for geometries organization through Grasshopper and Kangaroo, and arrived to the real fabrication of cardboard pavilion.
The days 4, 5 and 6 of June are reserved for organization and assembly of the cardboard pieces to give life to the pavilion, which will be in exhibition at MARTE – Mediateca

The Mediterranean Academy of Architecture Event
The Mediterranean Academy of Architecture offers 2 scholarships for the 6 workshops of the year 2012/2013!
The Mediterranean Academy of Architecture will be taken to contest 2 scholarships for the 6 workshops for the year 2012/2013, in the city of Cava de’ Tirreni (Salerno), at the Mediterranean Fab Lab, located at Mediateca MARTE.
The themes of the workshops will be: Rhinoceros and Grasshopper; Processing; Mapping Data Meaning; Open design; Interactive Design; Robot in Architecture.
1-4 Nov 2012
From 1st to 4th November, the architect Andrea Graziano, member and co-founder of Co-de.it, will be the tutor of the workshop “DATA FIELDS – Grasshopper as data processing tool”.
The aim is to provide to understand the value of the information and the articulation of the data, and how they are already in itself a spatial, design and architectural operations.
The workshop is the first of six training events organized by Medaarch for the year 2012.
OBJECTIVES
The workshop is aimed to provide the basics of parametric and generative modeling through Grasshopper, plug-in of visual programming visuale for Rhinoceros.
“Tools are extension of our minds and our nervous systems. Through devices we are able to capture more invisible data to make it visible and readable. Self monitoring triggers selfknowledge and self awareness. This new and enormous potential about acquiring data can drive better our design explorations and customized solutions.” The space in which we live can be monitored in many aspects and appears to be to be a gradient of data in continuous evolution and change. One of the major advantages of parametric tools is to be able to inform the design processes with accurate, specific and variable, in space and time, data streams.
“Data Fields” is a Grasshopper workshop (Rhino3D plug-in) that will focus on how its nature as an information processor and how it can be used in order to acquire and manipulate data, streaming inputs from various sources and use datafeeds to inform geometry or data structures from the very simple up to more complex ones. The aim is to give an understanding of information and data articultion as already a spatial and architectural operation. Results may range from pure data communication protocols, dataviz or data-driven geometries.
