OB Architecture unveils Sustainable and 99% Reusable Lanzante Pavilion for Goodwood Festival of Speed 2023

Lanzante Pavilion by OB Architecture at Goodwood Festival
Designed in collaboration with pioneering temporary structure manufacturer Showblock, the Lanzante Pavilion was first introduced at last year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed and was specifically created to elevate the concept and design standard of a typical event ‘stand’. Set across two storeys and spanning 735 sqft, the cantilevered structure is both a space for displaying the latest Lanzante projects, such as the McLaren P1 Spider and 930 TAG Turbo, to guests and festival attendees and an exclusive entertainment hub.
The second floor comprises a VIP lounge and terrace with rare trackside viewing. In 2022, the Lanzante Pavilion quickly became a go-to destination within the festival, with guests drawn to its sleek, discreet architectural design and its cleverly considered communal spaces. In addition, OB Architecture and Showblock provided eight satellite structures across the stand to display cars and create a reception area, whilst also capitalising on the pavilion’s leafy plot by incorporating a private shaded garden area at ground level with a clear view onto the track.
The green setting is further enhanced and reflected by the pavilion’s seamless mirrored panelling, which blends the interior and exterior environments. ClearSpan glazed sliding doors of 21sqm adjoin custom made anthracite grey steelwork modules, with the selected pallet of materials and mono-chrome colour scheme ensuring the cars are the focal point. Throughout the pavilion, the team has referenced architectural details found in Lanzante’s Petersfield showroom – also designed by OB Architecture.
The cars stand upon white monolithic plinths with track lighting suspended above, replicas of those in the showroom, whilst the pavilion’s double timber joists are a subtle nod to the exposed structure in the brand’s HQ. Lanzante’s audio partner, Bang and Olufsen, has designed an integrated audio-visual system throughout the space to ensure the best possible experience for Lanzante’s exclusive visitors and customers who are accustomed to the brand’s exceptional quality.
After the doors close on the Festival of Speed weekend, most temporary stands and displays are typically demolished and disposed of. However, the Lanzante Pavilion was designed to be dismounted with nothing going to waste; all the materials and the framed modules can be packed away and protected for reuse at future events. Whilst in storage following the 2022 Festival, the Lanzante Pavilion underwent minimal servicing and maintenance for any wear and tear by the Showblock team. Beyond its reuse, the adaptability of the design and structures provides the ability to continue expanding the pavilion with new additions. For this year’s event, a new module at ground level will house Lanzante merchandise and a reception to the pavilion. The pavilion has also been improved with high quality roof insulation, and integrated ventilation.
Aside from its sustainable credentials through its emphasis on reuse, the Lanzante Pavilion is also notable for the high level of craftsmanship and specification of its design and manufacturing, more typical of permanent structures. Materials are of the highest quality and joints are seamless and invisible, ensuring the desired sleek aesthetic reflective of the Lanzante brand. Anthracite grey sprayed timber louvres and a glazed balustrade provide a clean and open public viewing gallery. The tiled floors provide a durable finish with the bespoke lighting highlighting the Lanzante exhibits.

Traditionally, event stands are simply discarded when they’ve served their purpose, but 99% of the pavilion we designed with the team at Showblock can be reused and recycled. Everything throughout the design and build process, from the structural steelwork to the glazing right down to the paint choices, were considered and carefully selected with reuse, durability and longevity in mind. We hope that this paves the way for more sustainable and considered event architecture and design in the future.’
