12 March 2024
With many government-back grants and schemes open to the UK public, it’s possible that you could save hundreds of pounds on your energy bills per year.
With fuel costs rising and the cost of living having an effect on all families and households across the country, there’s no time better than the present to take advantage of money saving schemes backed by the British government. If eligible for such schemes, households could benefit from the installation of home insulation and other measures to improve the energy efficiency of the property they live in. Despite whether or not you own your home, there’s a chance for everyone to apply and access such financial support.
What is the ECO4 grant?
The ECO4 Scheme is a government-funded scheme that allows families and households the opportunity to access free funding for the installation of various measures that will reduce their energy bills.
The scheme is easy to apply for and can be done with the support of qualified assessors and registered installation contractors, like Eco Providers. Such services will assess your eligibility for the scheme and conduct an energy assessment of your property. Finding areas of the home requiring the most attention. If issues such as damp are found in the property, you will have to fix this before approval and installation of measures can go ahead.
The scheme includes backing for the following measures:
- Internal Wall Insulation
- Cavity Wall Insulation
- Room in Roof Insulation
- Loft Insulation
- Air Source Heat Pumps
- Gas Central Heating
- Heating Controls
- Solar PV
With registered installers, it is possible to find out your eligibility for the ECO4 Scheme in less than 1 minute. Simply by providing details of yourself, your property and any benefits that your household is in receipt of.
Households in receipt of the following benefits are able to qualify for the scheme in the UK:
If you or a member of your household is in receipt of one of the following benefits;
- Income based Jobseekers Allowance (JSA)
- Income related Employment and Support Allowance
- Income Support
- Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit)
- Pension Credit (Savings Credit)
- Working Tax Credits
- Child Tax Credits
- Universal Credit
- Housing Benefit
However households with lower incomes may also be eligible to access the funding. A household income of below £31,000 per annum may mean you’re eligible, even if you do not receive benefits.
What’s more, the ECO4 Scheme is not just open to homeowners In fact, if you are a private tenant in a rental property, you can still apply. Meaning, even if you do not own the property, you still have the right to access certain measures that will ensure you feel the difference, both to the environment you live in and to your wallet. Your landlord will certainly be happy with these upgrades too!
What the measures could mean for your energy bills
With the installation of measures including loft insulation, cavity wall insulation and a boiler upgrade, there’s hundreds of pounds worth of savings to be had.
Estimations of the average household show you could be saving:
- Wall insulation – up to £540 per year
- Boiler upgrade – up to £804 per year
- Roof insulation – up to £324 per year
- Solar PV – Up to £192 per year
- First time central heating – up to £936 per year
All of which would make a huge difference in helping you manage your household income. With a little more money leftover you can choose to save it for a rainy day or put it towards the household. Funding from the ECO4 Scheme and the subsequent installation of these measures, will certainly allow you space to breathe again. Relieving some of the stress and worry that the cost of living crisis has caused you and your family.
Not only this, but you’ll be adding value to your property by improving its EPC rating, making your home a more comfortable place to live, reducing your carbon emissions and future-proofing your home against rising energy costs in the future.
The ECO4 Scheme is a temporary scheme backed by the government which will run until 31 March 2026. So, be sure to check your eligibility within the designated time frame.
