The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies award over 60 new buildings, commercial and institutional developments, landscape architecture, and urban planning projects.
A primary school, a mountain bike visitor centre and a host of private dwellings including an ‘upside down’ house are among the buildings shortlisted for this year’s National Eisteddfod of Wales’ Gold Medal for Architecture, supported by the Design Commission for Wales.
“Poor old Northwich. It has waited more than 40 years for a new municipal building in the town centre and when one finally arrived it turned out to be the very model of an architectural carbuncle. Worse, it’s a turquoise-coloured carbuncle.”
