He is the designer of the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art – the only commissions he accepted in the USA
Design: Scott Allen, Olson Sundberg Kunding Allen (OSKA) Architects. Tucked against the wall of a natural cliff and right on the water’s edge in Gig Harbor, Washington, this project answered the unique challenges of its site. The footprint for the new structure replaces an old guest house and boathouse, and was limited in its size by an agreement through a regulatory process.
Design: Diamond Schmitt Architects. A Canadian invention that improves indoor air quality and reduces a building’s energy costs turns ten years old this spring. The living wall biofilter – an installation of tropical plants adorning office, academic, commercial and civic buildings – is a sustainable design response to create a healthy indoor environment and lower the carbon footprint.
Niall McLaughlin Architects wins Natural History Museum Competition
The Natural History Museum is delighted to announce that Niall McLaughlin Architects with Kim Wilkie have won the chance to re-develop its exterior grounds. The team will work with the Museum to create an innovative setting that matches the visual excellence of the world famous Waterhouse building and Darwin Centre.
Architects: ANMA/Agence Nicolas Michelin & Associés. The Grand Large district has been designed to take into consideration a special urban context: inserted between the city and the sea, between seaside resort aesthetic and port aesthetic, and between typological variation and collective spaces.
Design: MVRDV / Jerde / Arup. An international design team made up of MVRDV (overall design), The Jerde Partnership (commercial podium) and ARUP, collaborated to create Peruri 88 – a new landmark icon for Jakarta. It will be a vertical city in one building combining Jakarta’s need for more green spaces with the need for densification. The tower is a 400m tall mixed-use project with retail, offices, housing, a luxury hotel, four levels of parking, a wedding house, a mosque, imax theatres and an outdoor amphitheatre.
Centre Pompidou hosts first major European retrospective of the architect and theorist Bernard Tschumi.

Beijing Cityvision Competition is the sixth international competition launched by Cityvision and it’s part of the annual programme 2014, Evolution: the architecture of future mankind.
This architecture competition aims to provide a future vision of Beijing perceived as a Supercity that will absorb the best features from other cities, assuming them as her own, and then reinvent itself in the form of a new model.
Design: Steven Holl Architects. The School of Art & Art History at the University of Iowa, which also opened in September 2006, is awarded for successfully negotiating its site at the crossing of two orthogonal paths in the campus, at a place where the city grid is interrupted by natural landscape in the form of a small lagoon and a limestone bluff.
Design: Peter Ruge Architekten. A thin skin, protecting from the sun and water connects the two buildings, leaving in between a pathway open for the public. This supports Busan’s natural flow from mountain to the ocean, creating a good harmony between urban space and architecture.
The new landmark of Busan’s Opera House reflects the natural and urban energies and connects it to the performing arts spaces of “Madangnoli”, at the Mountain Plaza and the Sunrise Plaza, an urban harmony with a folk performance played by ordinary people.
David Chipperfield Architects’ ‘Veles e Vents’ building in Valencia temporarily became ‘The Paddock Club’ – the central hospitality venue for the European Grand Prix, in 2008. Built as the hospitality building for the 2007 America’s Cup, and located at the centre of the Valencia Street Circuit.
