We’ve selected what we feel are the key examples of Greek Architecture. We aim to include Greek Buildings that are either of high quality. We cover completed Greek buildings, new building designs, Greek architectural exhibitions and architecture competitions across Greece. The focus is on contemporary Greek buildings but information on traditional buildings in Greece is also welcome.

Due to its location, one of the client’s – illy KAFEA S.A. the world famous coffee company’s branch in Greece-primary requests was the creation of a very strong and recognizable building. Design: A31 Architecture

The Artist’s warehouse is a monolithic Modern structure. Its orthogonal plan is divided into 3 zones: Firstly, the cantilever with the balcony in the South, where the entrance is situated, secondly, the artist’s workspace and finally the attic in the North which serves as a storage space. A straight staircase connects the two levels, while the cantilevered concrete steps can serve as exhibition stands for the artist’s work.
Plane House, Skiathos, Greek Island – 25 Jun 2013
Design: K-STUDIO

Plane House is a new-build, family house of approximately 500sqm on the island of Skiathos, Greece. The brief for the architects was to create a summer escape for family and friends with the emphasis on laid-back, social living. The aim for the project was to merge internal and external space, maximising the benefits of both and minimising the impact on the surrounding landscape.
Residence in Kifissia, northern Athens, central Greece
Design: Tense Architecture Network

Residence in Kifissia – 27 May 2013
The residence’s plot is small and an adjacent building almost blocks the southern sun. The main part of the field should remain free and become the residence itself: an austere prism, centrally supported, hovers above the liberated ground.
Sikamino Residence, central Greece
Design: Tense Architecture Network

Sikamino Residence – 8 Mar 2013
The building shell is of reinforced concrete, exposed on roofs and walls. Iron frames, sun-protecting blinds, metallic shutters palliate the sense of transparency. The sculptural clarity of the concrete roof was attained by means of inversion of all beams but one, which abuts at the central column: the hearth.

Greek Beach Restaurant – 13 Feb 2013
The major challenge in the design for this building was dealing with the dominant natural conditions: the burning 40-degree midday sun and the notorious ‘Meltemi’ summer wind. Rather than blocking the effects of these natural forces, the architects welcomed them, embracing their qualities, adding them to their palate of materials, and turning them to the advantage of the design.

Venice Biennale Greek Pavilion – 25 Aug 2012
The Greek participation for the 13th International Architecture Exhibition of la Biennale di Venezia focuses on the particular dynamic of Athens during a period of economic meltdown. Contemporary Athens is a city of strong contradictions: It is a city whose particular identity was shaped during post-World-War-II reconstruction.

How could one revive vernacular architecture in such an exceptional setting as Imerovigli, Santorini, with its view of the Caldera, opposite the Skaros rock? Generally rooms to rent at the Caldera simulate the vernacular by cloning indefinitely vaulted roofs.
