London Open House 2014 dates: 20 & 21 September

This year we welcome stunning new additions from across the capital including stylish sustainable designs such as Nick Baker’s eco-home – 25C Montpelier Road – built using timber framing and passive solar design techniques and Ott’s Yard – a repurposed ramshackle group of sheds reimagined with a healthy dose of creative greening by the award-winning vPPR Architects.

Open House also welcomes imaginative conversions Dingle Price’s stylish House for a Painter, a conversion of a 20th century workhouse laundry building into a studio and residence for an artist and his family. Finally, Daykin Marshall’s modern two-story shopfront conversion on Gray’s inn road handles the demands of a traditional sho facing façade with apartment living.

Open House will be a unique opportunity to see, explore and learn about amazing architecture and design in your area and across London over one weekend. More than 800 buildings of all kinds will open their doors across London, alongside a programme of neighbourhood walks, engineering and landscape tours, cycle rides and experts’ talks – all for free.

Victoria Thornton, Founding Director of Open-City comments: “Open House is a unique and vibrant
annual event, offering people across London the chance to explore and learn about the capital’s
architecture. In 2013 87% of participants said the Open House annual event was the best way see,
explore and learn about the capital’s architecture. This year we’re putting together a great programme

Open House London Background

Open House is a concept that was created in London 22 years ago by Open-City, London’s leading independent architecture education organisation. The Open House model invites everyone to experience, explore and understand the value of a well-designed built environment. This successful concept has been extended to events in other cities around the world including New York, Dublin & Galway, Tel Aviv & Jerusalem, Barcelona, Rome, Helsinki, Slovenia and Chicago.
Further information on the Open House Worldwide family events can be found at

This year’s theme ‘Revealing’ sheds light on issues that are relevant to local communities unveils how the built environment is evolving – including the design of homes, the role of architects, engineers and contemporary design in revitalising places and above all showing how good design can make London a more liveable, vibrant and enjoyable city.
