In addition, Rogier will share his insight into the standards of the LED technology platforms, provide the case studies on how you can contribute to future LED innovation that are in intrinsically based on the unique capabilities of this new light source. This is the next wave of increasing market opportunities for quality LED lighting products and systems, by speeding up and increasing the adoption of LED products and luminaries.

“LED lighting is much more than energy saving only,” commented Jan Denneman at the SIL Europe 2010, “It offers new opportunities in enhancing the lighting experience, and allows solutions that are closer to the needs of human for natural light.”

Rogier is just one of the high-profile speakers who will be presenting at this event in March. Other industry leading experts and their sessions include:

Simone Collon, Lead Light Designer, ARUP Amsterdam, will provide her view on how lighting concept would contribute substantially to the commercial turnover of the build

Jim Collin, Senior Lighting Designer, WSP Lighting Design, will present the case study of successfully integrating advanced technology to a lighting scheme

Alan Jaques, Sector Leader Exterior Lighting, ATKINS GLOBAL, will focus on ensuring sustainable lighting installations through the appropriate application of lighting standards and apparatus

Lara Elbaz, Lighting Designer, Lara Elbaz and Rafael Gallego, Lighting Designer, áureolighting, will co-present a live case of Rivers of Light for the city of Valladolid

Plasma Studio and ewo present ‘Tagliente’

With the advent of LED lighting units suitable for outdoor lighting, ewo, the Bolzano-based, international manufacturer of high quality lighting systems asked Plasma Studio to develop a new type of street light for this radically new technology.

Starting from the conceptual diagram of the street lamp as a combination of vertical shaft and horizontal light-emitting beam and looking at birds and flowers for reference, Plasma developed Tagliente as a fluid transition between the vertical and horizontal directions.

Challenging the omnipresent and generic status of street lamps, this angular multi-facetted sculpture appears different from every angle and invites the casual passer-by to wander around it in order to grasp its form.

By being ambiguously between industrial and natural form, we experienced that the object’s relationship to context has been surprisingly versatile (as can be seen on the photos attached): The light was first exhibited at Plasma Studio’s Nodal Landscapes exhibition at the DAZ Berlin where it formed a dynamic extension to the orthogonal grids of a typical Berlin “Hinterhof” around it.

It is now displayed in front of ewo’s headquarter building, a contemporary context that enables it to articulate the link between the natural rocky backdrop and the man-made orthogonal structures.

About Plasma
Plasma Studio is a leading emergent architecture and design practice with worldwide scope and outlook operating out of three distinct studio locations, in London, Beijing and near Bolzano respectively. Working on a wide range of programmes and scales, from furniture to masterplanning, Plasma seeks to forge unique, evocative and elegant projects by calibrating the dynamic and fluid nature of flows, events and ephemera on the one hand and the rational, structural and systemic parameters of material, organisation and resistance on the other.

About ewo
ewo develops and produces high quality individual lighting systems for public spaces. Our innovative product range is always being developed further by suggestions from creative architects and lighting engineers. ewo is strongly involved in indirect lighting systems, which significantly contribute to a sophisticated lighting ambience. ewo considers itself as a partner in the development of integrated and well engineered lighting solutions. We offer competent lighting consultation, innovative lighting solutions and individual design.
