How to Prepare Your Kid’s Room for a Good Night’s Sleep

First things first – you should understand that improving your child’s sleep habits requires a multi-fold approach. From establishing a bedtime routine and sticking to a fixed wake-up time to ensuring that your child is active throughout the day – you need to keep an eye on various things.
To begin with, you need to create a relaxing bedtime routine for your kid and make sure you participate in it. Don’t forget to take inputs from your child and consider activities that they’ll enjoy. It could include a wide range of activities, such as a warm bath, some light playtime, and finally, reading.
Also, make sure your child goes to bed and wakes up around the same time every day. Adhering to a fixed bedtime and wake-up schedule will help adjust their body clock. Also, avoid watching scary films or reading ghost stories right before bedtime.
But while you might be busy setting a bedtime routine, you’re likely ignoring a crucial aspect that influences your child’s sleep, i.e. their room. If your child refuses to fall asleep easily despite endless bedtime stories, it’s likely because they don’t feel safe or relaxed in their room.

1. Prioritize Decluttering
Of course, you want to spoil your child with a treasure trove of toys. From cars and train sets to Legos and plush toys – your child’s room is likely flooded with numerous objects. While playing with these toys can help engage your child and burn some excess energy, they can also distract them during bedtime.
That’s why it is a good idea to declutter your kid’s room and remove any objects and artifacts that might be distracting. Apart from toys and other belongings, take a look at the walls and identify any distracting imagery.
2. Change the Color Palette
As a ground-rule, choose warm and comforting colors, such as pink and coral, that’ll help your child feel at home. Use colors that’ll intensify the effect of daylight and have a calming effect at night. If you’re renovating or remodeling your home, it’s a good idea to involve your kid in the process of selecting colors for their room.
3. Watch the Bed
Nothing makes you fall asleep faster than a warm and cozy bed. Your child isn’t an exception to this rule. Make sure you provide them with soft pillows and sheets to help them feel comfortable. Avoid overly bright colors and distracting patterns on their bedsheets and pillows.
