Famous Glasgow Architecture and architects
British architecture ranges from an eclectic combination of architectural styles and designs, from Roman to 21st-century contemporary. With its unique architectural styles, the U.K. plays a leading role in the international history of architecture. According to the 2017 rankings, The U.K. is also home to three out of the top 10 universities for architecture in the world such as Manchester School of Architecture, University College, London and Cambridge University.
Glasgow is famous for its 19th-century Victorian architecture- a series of architectural revival styles. Victorian refers to the reign of Queen Victoria. The name- Victorian architecture represents the British and French custom of naming architectural styles for a reigning monarch. Glasgow is also famous for its early 20th century Glasgow style which was developed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

Charles Rennie Mackintosh was a Scottish designer, talented architect and artist. Mackintosh was the most famous architect from Glasgow and also a leading figure of the European Art Nouveau movement.

The House for an Art Lover is located in Bellahouston Park in the Southside of Glasgow, The building is based on a design by Mackintosh and his wife Margaret MacDonald and was initially designed for an ideas competition in 1901.
Lighthouse was built in 1895 for the Glasgow Herald newspaper. Mackintosh and his contemporary John Keppie designed the building. The Lighthouse has the Scottish Centre for Architecture and Design which is also open to the public. People visiting there can From there you can enjoy some of the best views over Glasgow.

Some other building by the famous Scottish artist – Charles Rennie Mackintosh are Glasgow School of Art, Mackintosh Church (Queen’s Cross), Daily Record Printing Works on Renfield Lane, Martyr’s School on Castle Street, Queen Margaret College on Queen Margaret Drive. Clyde Auditorium theatre by Sir Norman Foster, the iconic Glasgow Riverside Museum by Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid.
Holmwood House, a residential villa by the architect and architectural theorist Alexander Thomson, He created this villa for paper manufacturer James Couper. The best example of Scottish Gothic architecture is the oldest building in Glasgow, St Mungo’s Cathedral also known as Glasgow Cathedral.
