Swanke Hayden Connell Architects Opens New Office In Shanghai
LONDON, ENGLAND – March 25, 2010 – Swanke Hayden Connell Architects (SHCA) has international offices in the United Kingdom, Europe and USA, and has opened the firm’s ninth office – in Shanghai, China.
Located in the rapidly expanding Jinqiao district of Pudong, the Shanghai office will support SHCA’s projects in China and the Asia-Pacific region. These include the 110,000 square metres (1.2 million square foot) Jinqiao Biyun 90 Hotel & Office Complex in Shanghai, for which construction is scheduled to begin this year.

David Hughes, Chief Executive Officer of SHCA said: “We are committed to expanding the firm’s international service offer despite the challenging economic times and the opening of our office in China is another important step in that process.”
SHCA Architectural Management Principal, Scott Springer, AIA, LEED AP, will oversee the operations of this new Shanghai office, which is projected to have ten employees by the end of 2010. Mr. Springer has been involved in the management of projects in China for the past ten years.
According to Peter Gross, SHCA’s CEO for the United States, SHCA is committed to aggressively expanding the practice in the Chinese region. “While the first round of great architecture has been centered on Beijing and Shanghai, the growth is now in the second and third tier cities, many of which have populations in excess of one million. We are excited about the possibilities and feel that Shanghai, as China’s emerging financial capital, is the ideal base from which to practice.”
Swanke Hayden Connell Architects is the continuation of an architectural practice founded in 1906. Staffed with more than 300 professionals located in nine offices worldwide, the firm provides services in five core areas of practice: master planning, architecture, interior design, workplace consulting, and historic preservation, working with a variety of corporate and institutional clients.
