Senior Appointments to healthcare team at Swanke Hayden Connell Architects
Swanke Hayden Connell Architects (SHCA) has recruited three senior architects to its healthcare team. Michael McGeady will be the team’s new director of healthcare, Yolande Wyer joins as senior clinical planner, while Karen Beaty-Pownall has taken on the role of project leader.

Michael McGeady has worked in healthcare facility design for almost 20 years and has honed his planning and design skills working with Jonathan Bailey, Jean Man, Stanley Tigerman and Will Alsop. He’s worked in the Middle East, Canada, the USA and the UK delivering both traditional and PFI/PPP projects.
Yolande Wyer, has over 25 years of architectural experience within the health, education and commercial sectors. Her past projects include design and medical planning roles within the PFI process for the Oxford Neuroscience with Women and Children Centre, the Walsall Hospital and most recently the Royal Liverpool Hospital.
Karen Beaty-Pownall has over 20 years experience in the UK and overseas. She has worked on a wide variety of healthcare projects including PFI, Design and Build and P21/Frameworks.
Julian Seward of the architecture practice commented: “I know these senior architects will be an asset to our existing healthcare team. Their international and UK experience speaks for itself and I have no doubt that their combined skills will be invaluable in helping us maintain our record of winning and delivering creative work in this sector.”
Recently the SHCA healthcare team has completed the acclaimed £320m PFI project at King’s Mill Hospital in Nottinghamshire, where it was responsible for extensive re-development and refurbishment. More recently SHCA won a PPP competition to design and deliver a new hospital in Bermuda. The practice also continues to work at The London Clinic, in Harley Street, where it is lead consultant and providing architectural design services for the refurbishment and additions to the existing main building as well as the newly opened Eye Centre.
