The Program & Site For his new mansion in Jeddah, the client’s ambition was to enjoy modern architectural qualities of a contemporary house such as space openness, transparency, sculptural geometry and slick materials.
The Bahia House is an ecological house. But, not in the technological sense, not in the contemporary sense of the word “sustainability”, it does not have the very latest state-of-the-art gadgets that make it possible to optimize electric expenditure.
There is a clear hierarchy in this house. Contrasting to the raked timber wall that stretches from the letterbox to become the westerly verandah, the remainder of the house appears as a simple modernist expression akin to many of the houses in the region.
The A-House is a former industrial building dating from 1960. In recent years the building has undergone extensive refurbishment.
