Light & Dark House
On a steep site (with a fall of about 15 metres), the Longueville house abuts the Warraroon Reserve. It’s an unusual site.
There are only a few inner-area pockets of Sydney that are bushfire-prone. While the new brick house includes a timber structure, one of the skins concealed below the brick and metal cladding is Firefly.
The non-combustible product is also used below the steel roof. The shutters on all the windows are made from steel, akin to those used on roller doors, allowing the house to automatically ‘shut down’ during a fire. The brutal exterior is complemented by a warm, light interior.
