Casa Suna, Mexico
Casa Suna, designed by YDR Estudio, is a breathtaking vacation retreat nestled between the serene beach and the rugged mountains of La Ribera, B.C.S., Mexico. This 700-square-meter residence blends contemporary sophistication with the natural landscape, offering an unparalleled experience of luxury, tranquility, and seamless indoor-outdoor living.
Upon arrival, visitors are welcomed by a striking cactus wall that introduces the residence’s thoughtful spatial arrangement. Flanking the entrance, two mirror-like modules house a car garage and a service area, seamlessly integrated into the design.
These elements, along with desert-inspired patios, create a carefully curated entry sequence that guides guests toward the main house. The use of locally sourced stone for the exterior walls allows the structure to blend effortlessly with its surroundings, harmonizing with the sandy terrain and coastal backdrop.
One of the defining architectural features of Casa Suna is its upward-tilted roof, subtly drawing the eye toward the expansive sky. The material palette, consisting of beige concrete and warm wooden accents, echoes the natural hues of the beach and desert landscape. This careful selection enhances the home’s connection with nature while reinforcing its serene aesthetic.
At the heart of the residence lies a circular central patio, a unique and versatile space designed for relaxation, social gatherings, and quiet contemplation. A fire pit at its center, encircled by a built-in sofa, provides a cozy atmosphere that encourages connection while offering an uninterrupted view of the night sky. This open design not only fosters a sense of intimacy but also frames the celestial landscape, making stargazing a memorable part of the experience.
The home features six meticulously designed bedrooms, each embracing a neutral color palette that enhances the calming ambiance. The master suite boasts sweeping views of the beach, while a second master bedroom overlooks the tranquil central patio.
Two additional bedrooms, sharing a bathroom with a bunk bed room, face the desert-inspired patio at the rear of the house. Travertine marble finishes in the bathrooms maintain the residence’s material consistency, adding a touch of understated elegance.
The layout is designed to maximize cross-ventilation and connectivity between spaces. The living areas flow seamlessly from the entrance through to the beachfront terrace, where panoramic ocean views take center stage. Expansive openings and sliding doors blur the lines between indoors and outdoors, allowing natural light and ocean breezes to fill the home.
Facing the pristine beach, the social areas extend into an expansive terrace, where sculptural concrete cubes define the pool, jacuzzi, and steps leading directly onto the sand. This thoughtful design enhances the transition between land and sea, inviting residents to immerse themselves in the coastal environment.
Casa Suna is more than a vacation home—it is a sanctuary that embraces the natural beauty of its surroundings. Through careful design, material harmony, and a deep connection to the landscape, this coastal retreat offers an extraordinary blend of relaxation, luxury, and an ever-present dialogue with the ocean, desert, and starlit sky.
