Rotherhithe Housing Project
Design: Hawkins\Brown
Location: Salter Road, Rotherhithe, London, England
Hawkins\Brown has just won planning permission to develop 103 homes on the site of the former Fisher FC ground on Salter Road, in Rotherhithe.
Hawkins\Brown’s Salter Road scheme for Fairview New Homes comprises two terraces of three-storey family houses, and a series of four-storey mansion blocks, including provision for Mobility homes and affordable housing.
Two shades of Belgian brick inspire the materials palette, which is expressed through a dark plinth and textured brickwork throughout the tenure-blind scheme.
The family homes have steeply pitched roofs and the blocks contain maisonettes with lateral apartments above. Flat roofs of the mansion blocks enclose a biodiversity roof and photovoltaic panels. The former playing surface of the football club will redeveloped to become a new public park managed by the local council.
Fairview is also developing a new ground for Fisher FC at the St. Paul’s recreation ground to bring the club back to its home in Rotherhithe after sharing a ground with Dulwich Hamlet since 2004.
