The new SK Chemicals headquarters located in Pangyo-Dong, South Korea features office areas and laboratories distributed between two buildings, connected by a 29.5 feet wide / 128 feet high central atrium.
The 14 story, 136,600 square-feet, building for SK Chemicals headquarters was constructed from August, 2008 to September, 2010, which includes the design process.
Programs: -Lobby, Café and Meeting zone for visitors: 1F -Conference rooms for Employee: 2F -Typical work areas and sub facilities 4F-8F -Executive floor: 9F -Employee cafeteria: B1F -Parking lot: B2F-B5F
The high-tech, urban image of the exterior design is offset by the sensitive, sustainable interior design to provide both visual and psychological “Green Space”.
Technical green solution and emotional visual expression create genuine green space.
Atrium space creates the following circulation as the CENTRAL HUB: – Space Circulation: The central atrium is located between office and laboratory and creates the main space circulation horizontally and vertically of the building – Media Circulation (=Social Circulation): Projected media from Projector is applied on one of the walls in atrium.
Its contents consist of the corporate vision and social exchanges, which can promote employee to donate through mobile technology. – Environmental Circulation: Wall Fountain of Atrium automatically controls the internal temperatures, humidity, and the overall cooling load of the large open atrium space.
The sound and scent that delivered from a regional mountain preserved by the SK group creates emotional atmosphere that enable visitors and employees to be experienced as if they are in the middle of the forest.
The sloped ceiling with beveled edges in the public café changes the whole atmosphere to a more dynamic and flexible space, compared to a straight and open atrium.
Applying different materials and textures to the same level of space intrinsically lead people and create the circulation without signage.
The SK Chemicals headquarters has been designed as an energy saving building that achieved the highest score at the Green Building Certification Criteria (GBCC) and it is currently in a process for a LEED Platinum certification.
The SK Chemicals headquarters used water reuse system which collects rain water and reuse it that save portable water consumption.
Lighting and temperature system controlled by individual users or specific group can save the overall energy use of the building.
The atrium and work area have been designed to bring maximum natural light into the overall interior space. And the micro louver system located at the top of the atrium offers sufficient solar/thermal control. As a result, the louver saves much electricity consumption from artificial light and air condition.
