Viru Keskus Design Competition in Tallinn

Viru Keskus is one of Estonia’s leading shopping centres located in the city centre of Tallinn and is currently undergoing the process of renewal.

The Estonian Association of Interior Architects are about to launch a contest for the interior design concept of the shopping centre that should keep the centre going for the next coming 10 years. The winning entry is expected to act as a basis for further design, which will be implemented most probably 2021-2024.

There are altogether 109 different shops on the 26 800m2 rental area of Shopping Centre; Viru Centre is the market leader among the shopping centres in Estonia with approximately 16 million visitors per annum, and the most efficient shopping centre in the Baltic States and Nordic Countries.

The contest will be with pre-selection – based on the submitted portfolios up to 6 (interior) architectural offices will be invited to participate.

Each participant elected will get 5000€ and the winner will get extra 5000€. Winner of the competition should find a local partner (in case the participant is not local, in collaboration with client) in order to finish the project and get all necessary permits from local municipality and other parties needed.

The participants of the contest will be invited to the jury meeting to present their proposals.

The design competition schedule:

February 25 2019 – sending out the invitations for submitting the portfolios
March 4 2019 – deadline for submitting the portfolios
March 11 2019 – announcement of the 6 participants. sending out the competition brief
April 30 2019 – deadline for delivering the design entries, I phase
May 10 2019 – latest date of selection of the 2-3 entries for the II phase (by the jury)
May 17 2019 – additional specification of requirements for the II phase of the contest
May 31 2019 – deadline for delivering the design entries, II phase
June 14 2019 – latest date of announcing the winner

The portfolio must be delivered in PDF format and its size should not exceed 15MB as an e-mail attachment or 25MB as an online link.
