Plans for New Southampton Arts Complex Receive Major Boost

Plans to turn the former Tyrrell & Green department store site in Southampton into a new arts complex with commercial and residential units have received a major boost.

Arts Council England has signed-off the RIBA Stage D design proposals while the developer Grosvenor has instructed its consultants – led by CZWG Architects – to progress Stage E for the whole development.
Capita Symonds is project managing the 100,000 sqft arts complex which is being designed by Glenn Howells Architects.
It is expected that work will start on site this autumn with the Southampton Cultural Quarter project due for completion in 2015.

This is a placemaking project that epitomises our commitment to creating great places in which to live, work and enjoy.
This mixed-use scheme comprises 38 residential units, 7 retail units with cafes and restaurants totalling 20,000 sq ft and 63,000 sq ft of Arts Complex. It forms the centre piece of Southampton’s Cultural Quarter.
