The Cloverdale Athletic Park Fieldhouse at Cloverdale Athletic Park is optimally sited to provide proximity to athletic fields, easy access to change- and wash-rooms, and clear sightlines for parents to easily keep an eye on kids. Fitting the program and two separate exit stairs within 500 square meters presented a challenge solved through an exploration of multiple floorplan options.

The main floor contains changerooms, women’s, men’s, and unisex washrooms, and support spaces, while the upper floor holds a dividable meeting room, with service area, kitchen, and a unisex washroom. The second-floor east wall also offers floor-to-ceiling windows that offer a full view of the playing field from goal-post to goal-post.

The design avoids recessed entries and alcoves and uses highly durable and proven materials to deter vandalism and crime. The colour and massing hints at Surrey’s agricultural past without sacrificing a contemporary, athletic look and feel.
