Norman Foster to present Building Beauty Awards 2022

24th of March 2022, London: Lord Foster of Thames Bank OM has been announced as the presenter of the first Building Beauty Awards, run by the Royal Fine Art Commission Trust and sponsored by Ballymore.

Building Beauty Awards in 2022 News

The awards, celebrating the power of beautiful new architecture to raise spirits, are now open for entries at www.buildingbeautyawards.com, with categories for buildings, engineering structures, public space projects and ‘Little Gems’ – small interventions such as pavilions that beautify the environment. UK projects completed since the beginning of 2019 are eligible. The deadline for entries is 22 April. Winners will be announced at a ceremony in October 2022.

The overall winning designer will receive £10,000 and have their project automatically shortlisted for the new Royal Fine Art Commission Trust International Building Beauty Prize, also sponsored by Ballymore. The international prize will be awarded at the World Architecture Festival in Lisbon on 2 December 2022.

The Royal Fine Art Commission Trust is a registered charity established in 1987 to sit alongside the Royal Fine Art Commission, the Government’s independent advisor on matters affecting public amenity and aesthetics in England and Wales. Its President is Lord Foster of Thames Bank OM and its advisory and trustee boards includes leading names in the worlds of art, architecture and design, including Sir Terry Farrell, Lord Palumbo of Walbrook and Dinah Casson CBE.

Over the past thirty-five years, the Trust has sought to promote visual awareness and public appreciation of high-quality design, and today it continues to advance its charitable objectives through commentary on design matters and by partnering projects where its involvement can add value.

Building Beauty Awards Announces £10,000 Prize for the Winning Architect

The Royal Fine Art Commission Trust is delighted to announce that a £10,000 prize will be awarded to the overall winner of its new Building Beauty Awards, to be presented for the first time in 2022. This is the joint biggest architecture prize currently awarded in the UK and the biggest in England.

Building Beauty Awards in 2022

The 2022 Building Beauty Awards celebrate buildings, engineering structures and urban landscaping schemes completed since the beginning of 2019 that add beauty to our environment. Everyone is welcome to submit an entry free of charge at www.buildingbeautyawards.com. The deadline for entries is the end of March 2022.

The judging panel will be led by one of Britain’s foremost design critics, Stephen Bayley Hon FRIBA, Chairman of the Royal Fine Art Commission Trust and founder of The Design Museum in London. He will be joined by the architectural commentator Paul Finch OBE, the architectural writer Clive Aslet and the cultural historian Kassia St Clair. Other judges will be announced shortly. Winners will be announced at a ceremony in early Summer 2022.

In addition to the £10,000 prize, the architect of the overall winner will be invited to help select the recipients of the new Building Beauty Grants, which are aimed at promoting small beautification projects. Grants can be applied for at www.buildingbeautyawards.com
