In 2013, SJB was awarded the masterplan for the Newcastle CBD with then owners of the site, UrbanGrowth and GPT. SJB completed extensive community consultation and were determined to bring new life to the neglected centre of Newcastle.

In 2016, the site was purchased by Iris Capital, and SJB were appointed Executive Architect of Stage 1, working in collaboration with Durbach Block Jaggers and Tonkin Zulaikha Greer.

SJB shortlisted for the 2017 World Architecture Festival and INSIDE

The World Architecture Festival (WAF), the world’s largest and most prestigious architecture awards programme, announced this year’s finalists. For the first time, SJB entered in both WAF (architecture) and INSIDE (interiors). Seven architectural projects have been shortlisted across a number of categories.

The architectural event will be held in Berlin 15-17 November, with the shortlisted practices going head-to-head in live judging sessions. The winning projects go on to compete for the ultimate accolades, World Building of the Year, Future Project of the Year, Landscape of the Year, and World Interior of the Year.

This rooftop addition to the original Demco Machinery building is a new structure spanning between two original rooftop elements: the goods lift enclosure and overrun (now the master bedroom and study) and the emergency escape stair (now bedroom 3).

Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and architects Fender Katsilidis win the international design competition for a landmark project at Sydney’s Central Station. The development seeks to rejuvenate the city’s busiest transport interchange with a new, vibrant public realm, and bring two tech-focused office towers with the world’s first AI-driven facade system, powered by 100% renewable energy to Central Business District.
