EDAW Practice Information

The company title was an acronym derived from Eckbo, Dean, Austin and Williams: these are the surnames of four of the firm’s original partners: Garrett Eckbo, Edward Williams, Francis Dean and Don Austin.

From designing inspiring open spaces and creating new communities to regenerating cities, this firm is a leader in making distinctive and attractive places. The company’s collaborative and cross-disciplinary approach delivers imaginative and sustainable solutions to enhance quality of life and ensure every project’s long-term success.

Recent work by this architectural studio includes transforming the public realm at the Pier Head World Heritage Site, Liverpool, masterplanning the Olympic Park in London, and designing a 1000-hectare international university campus for Education City in Qatar.

Rooted in landscape architecture and masterplanning and architecture, the practice encompasses design, planning, economic development, social and cultural consultancy and environmental services. This design office was part of the AECOM group from 2005 after being purchased by the American engineering conglomerate.

This was an international landscape architecture, urban and environmental design firm. The company operated from 1939 until 2009. It ceased to exist as a standalone practice in 2009 when it was fully integrated into the AECOM company.

The firm started in San Francisco, and became the most commercially successful and well-known landscape architecture and urbanism firm in the world. At its height the firm had 32 offices worldwide.
