Harrods, the world’s leading luxury department store, is pleased to announce the opening of The Residence private members club, located in HKRI Taikoo Hui Cha House, Shanghai. The club, which is a global first for Harrods, houses Gordon Ramsay’s first Shanghai restaurant and offers unique experiences to members including access to rare wines and spirits from partners such as LOUIS XIII and The Macallan. The Residence has been carefully designed to create a vibrant social hub, where like-minded individuals can meet and become part of a community with access to exclusive events, from wine tastings to chef’s tables to masterclasses and networking evenings.

Designed by the team at SOCIAL F+B, the approach taken to designing the club was to embrace and enhance the heritage-chic interiors by designing a luxuriously rich dining and lounge area that sits royally within the colonial baroque architectural style of the building. Inspired by the natural beauty of the local area and the legacy of Harrods, the design brings together subtle, botanical touches and a refined use of materiality.

On arrival at Cha House, members will be greeted by the iconic Harrods Green Man synonymous with our London Knightsbridge store. Members will be transported to the private members club on level two by the eye-catching and famous elevator, which reflects the classic Harrods heritage that it is renowned for globally.

The design of the private members club, which includes a lounge, bar area stocked with rare liquids and a specially curated wine selection, private dining room and spaces to entertain, as well as terraces, intertwines international luxury with local accents of Shanghai, from wall panels inspired by Chinese fans to the brass art-deco detailing of the columns, the design works to blend a sense of place with the elevated sense of refinement that sets a Harrods experience apart. This effortless blending of Harrods quintessential luxury with a celebration of Shanghai mirrors the highly anticipated menu of Gordon Ramsay at The Residence, available exclusively to members and their guests, where the internationally renowned chef has created British classics with a Shanghai twist and the best of local ingredients and flavours.

Each exquisite space has a unique character and was created to give members a highly personalised and exclusive space to indulge or entertain. Each space has been meticulously curated, from integrating the original floor tiles to the custom-made Murano glass lights and gold leaf ceiling in the Ladies powder room.

Every detail of the club has been carefully curated to exude luxury, from the artwork down to the glassware. Artwork includes work from artist Qu Qianmei, picked from the Halcyon Gallery, which hangs in the West Suite and glassware includes Richard Brendon’s Diamond Double Old Fashioned Tumbler, with each glass mouth blown before being hand cut with the striking diamond pattern.

Ensuring total privacy and discretion, only 250 members will be accepted to join The Residence with additional members considered following peer nominations. The three tiers of membership start from 150,000 RMB for annual membership. Expressions of interest can be registered while admissions are still open via WeChat:
