5 Brian Road Morningside home by Nico van der Meulen Architects – total renovation of 1960s South African home in a prime area of a quiet cul-de sac of Johannesburg.
The house was conceived and designed by SAOTA as a simple box, floating over the dune, capturing and framing the view. The outer shell of the box is finished in a rough textured concrete, contrasting with the smooth reveal and soffit that tapers to create a delicate frame.
This SAOTA designed villa is accessed from Kloof Road, which winds along the western slopes of Lion’s Head, this site is positioned in the wind-protected suburb of Clifton.
For local design studio ARRCC, who executed the project, it was the homeowner’s affinity for colours – and a multitude of materials – that informed the creative journey.
