Brooklyn Navy Yard to stage “Making It in NYC” exhibit at BLDG 92 ‘Making It in NYC: the Era of New Manufacturing’ From 19th Century warships to 21st Century high-tech military gear, lifesaving drug discoveries to life-changing technologies, world-renowned furniture to world-class fashion, the Brooklyn Navy Yard and greater New York City have long been fertile ground for entrepreneurial manufacturers and makers.

Design: David Jay Weiner. This project is a response to a client’s desire to build a small weekend house on an open clearing of a heavily wooded site with southern views overlooking the Berkshire Hills.

In the spirt of a Japanese kimono, the house is conceived as a single sweeping volumetric “sheet” enclosure that wraps and folds into itself to form and define two major interior spaces. The primary interior space is used for living, dining and study.

Big U – Manhattan Flood Defence

After months of research and community engagement across the Sandy-affected region, the BIG Team and the 9 other Rebuild by Design teams have unveiled their final proposals at Brookfield Place in Lower Manhattan and Liberty Science Center in Jersey City on Thursday. The teams, along with hundreds of tri-state residents and government representatives, gathered to view the proposals heard from U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Shaun Donovan and Rockefeller Foundation President Dr. Judith Rodin.

551W21 New York Condo, NYC Apartments

551 West 21st Street

Scott Resnick and Brown Harris Stevens announce the opening of the sales office for 551W21, the new 19-story luxury condominium in West Chelsea by architects Foster + Partners. Designed by Lee Mindel of Shelton, Mindel & Associates, the sales office meticulously presents the signature interior elements of Foster + Partners’ building design.

The condominium overlooks the Hudson River and features 44 large-scaled residences. Beyer Blinder Belle is the executive architect for the building.

Richard Meier Model Museum in New Jersey

Richard Meier & Partners announce opening of the new Richard Meier Model Museum at Mana Contemporary at 888 Newark Avenue in Jersey City, New Jersey. The new museum designed and curated by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Richard Meier includes a large model exhibition area, a sculpture exhibition area, an archive and a library that is open to students and scholars.

Journal Squared, designed by Hollwich Kushner (HWKN) and Handel Architects, marks a profound renaissance for the Journal Square area of Jersey City. The project follows a long history of innovative transit-based urban renewal projects by the KRE Group, whose prior developments include Grove Point, 225 Grand Street and 18 Park, also in Jersey city.
