Inspiration for this design by Studio ZEC Architects was the vernacular architecture – steep roofs, materiality for a non-forgiving mountain site – plus tactility and warmth of a mountain hut. Influences were filtered and adapted to contemporary architectural design standards.
Theme of scattered Herzegovinian village inspired the composition of the family estate. Multiple facilities are carefully positioned to each gain views according to the client’s wishes. The interrelation between the houses creates fine outside spaces onto which the units expand.
The approach of the proposal was to develop a residential complex in strong connection to the context. Located in a remote, poorly inhabited part of West Herzegovina canton, the site stretches over 35 000 square meters of wild landscape, bounded by strong stone walls.
The idea by Groleger Arhitekti to create a building, a “diptych”, a merging tower based apparently on two independent volumes, started by a profound analysis of the urbanistic, cultural and social factors of the City of Sarajevo.
