In the southern Chinese city of Dongguan – a city of several million – a basketball stadium has been completed to plans by architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp). The building can be seen from afar and is a landmark that provides identity and orientation to the people in the new district of Liaobu.

Design: Oppenheim Architecture + Design – La Muna, a complete renovation and minor addition of one of the first homes built in the ultra-exclusive enclave of Red Mountain in Aspen, Colorado. 30 years of haphazard of this rustic ski chalet with all its imperfections—an homage to the Japanese sensibility of wabi sabi. Clad in reclaimed regional wood, stone and steel the home is intended to make a minimal impact on the natural resources and merge effortlessly with its idyllic surroundings of forest, stream and mountain.
A team around KCAP Architects&Planners selected as one of three finalists in the competition for the International Financial Center (IFC) in Moscow. IFC is a 460 ha mixed-use development project located in Rublyovo-Arkhangelskoye and includes the construction of offices, housing and hotels, as well as commercial and social infrastructure.
Design: Architettura Matassoni. The set is strongly characterized by large elements of uptake of natural light that they become really towers and outer bearing elements of the composition; the whole is such a device to selection of the natural light, oriented so as to optimize the internal visual comfort.

Recently, 2013 AIM Competition “Post Earthquake Reconstruction, Ya’an Sichuan – Rebuild Panda’s hometown from the earthquake” has announced the winners of the four awards.
The Ya’an Earthquake occurred at 08:02 Beijing Time (00:02 UTC) on April 20, 2013. The epicenter was located in Lushan County, Ya’an, Sichuan, about 116 km (72 mi) from Chengdu along the Longmenshan Fault in the same province heavily impacted by the 2008 Sichuan earthquake.

HENN Architects win Wenzhou High-Rise. North-east of the city centre, not far from the banks of the Ou Jiang river, lies the new Central Business District of the eastern China metropolis of Wenzhou.
Design: David Jay Weiner. This project is a response to a client’s desire to build a small weekend house on an open clearing of a heavily wooded site with southern views overlooking the Berkshire Hills.
In the spirt of a Japanese kimono, the house is conceived as a single sweeping volumetric “sheet” enclosure that wraps and folds into itself to form and define two major interior spaces. The primary interior space is used for living, dining and study.
Design: COOP HIMMELB(L)AU
After four years of construction, the “House of Music” in Aalborg, Denmark was ceremoniously opened on March 29, 2014 by the Danish Queen Margrethe II.
This cultural centre was designed by the Viennese architectural studio Coop Himmelb(l)au as a combined school and concert hall: its open structure promotes the exchange between the audience and artists, and the students and teachers. “The idea behind the building can already be read from the outer shape. The school embraces the concert hall,” explained Wolf D. Prix, design principal and CEO of Coop Himmelb(l)au.
Design: BIG. This building is a 420 ft tall mixed-use observation tower to serve as a symbol for the city of Phoenix, Arizona. Located in downtown Phoenix, the 70,000 sf Observation Tower shall add a significant structure to the Phoenix skyline from which to enjoy the city’s spectacular views of the surrounding mountain ranges and dramatic sunsets. Phoenix-based developer Novawest, commissioned the team to create a destination event to provide tourists and citizens of Phoenix alike the chance to enjoy the unique features of the Valley of the Sun.
Architect: Foster + Partners – part of the AT&T Performing Arts Center, the new Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House in Dallas redefines the essence of an opera house for the twenty first century, breaking down barriers to make opera more accessible for a wider audience.
Responding to the Dallas climate, a generous solar canopy extends from the building, revealing below a fully glazed sixty foot high lobby. Beneath the canopy, a shaded pedestrian plaza creates a major new public space for the city.
