152 Elizabeth Street Apartments New York
When describing 152 Elizabeth New York, Tadao Ando felt that along with embracing Manhattan, it was paramount for the building to create a sort of sanctuary apart from it. According to architect Tadao Ando, “A home has to be a place where you can reflect on your life. This project is about that. When you come home, 152 Elizabeth should give a quiet feeling. I have to make something that touches human hearts and leaves a feeling inside of them”.
In regards to the building, architect Ando speaks about 152 Elizabeth being made of “20th-century materials — concrete, iron, and glass. For a building to truly work, Ando believes there has to be a balance of its elements — not just between the light and the shadow, but also between the water, the greenery, the steel, and the glass. About the 152 Elizabeth apartments, Tadao Ando says that “Every single thing has to be in harmony”.

As quoted in the NY Times, his buildings have risen in Tokyo, Milan, Shanghai and even Butwal, Nepal, but celebrated Japanese architect Tadao Ando has never designed one in New York City — until now. Tadao Ando’s first residential building in Manhattan will set a new benchmark for luxury development and contemporary architecture. Ando said that he wanted to “create something that only a Japanese person could do”.
The acclaimed architect has designed a building that seamlessly blends a poured-in-place concrete structure with a burnished metal framework. Generous glass panels add buoyancy to the building, while a 55-ft high and 99-ft wide living green wall spanning the entire south facade, designed in collaboration with landscape architects M Paul Friedberg and Partners.
152 Elizabeth Street is an ultra-luxury building designed by Japanese master architect Tadao Ando in collaboration with the world-renowned architectural firm Gabellini Sheppard. Ando, the world’s preeminent architect, the only one to have been awarded all four of the leading international architecture honours, has created an unparalleled work of art — a jewel box rising up from a reflective poured in place concrete base.

The seven-storey concrete and glass building on Elizabeth Street in Lower Manhattan will contain seven apartments: these residences range from 175-sqm two-bed apartments to a 450-sqm penthouse.
Floor-to-ceiling windows use galvanised steel mullions. Water will run down a grooved glass wall in the building’s entrance vestibule. The lobby will feature a fog and light installation that changes with the weather and seasons.
