St George Wharf is a riverside development in the London Borough of Lambeth, England, United Kingdom, located on the southern bank of the River Thames beside Vauxhall Bridge. The River Effra, one of the Thames’ many underground tributaries, empties into the main river close by. The development comprises over 1,100 apartments, as well as offices, retail units and restaurants.

It has twice won The Architects’ Journal’s ‘Worst building in the world’ award. On 16 January 2013, a helicopter collided with a crane being used in the construction of the St George Wharf Tower. The helicopter crashed in nearby Wandsworth Road, killing the pilot. One person on the ground also died, and a number of others were injured.

The exceptional location of St George Wharf on London’s River Thames called for a landmark building to further enhance the new architectural landscape as the final phase of the development. The regeneration of the site and immediate area is already a demonstration project of practical delivery on a marginal site previously derelict for over 40 years.

Make has submitted a new landmark mixed-use development, The Octave, for planning approval. Located on a brownfield site on Bondway in Vauxhall, the proposed 149m tall building supports the planned regeneration of the Vauxhall, Battersea and Nine Elms OAPF area and is within an area allocated for a potential cluster of new tall buildings in Vauxhall.

As an integral part of the ‘Nine Elms Development Opportunity’ projected to be a larger regeneration area than Canary Wharf and soon to be the home of the American Embassy, Amin Taha Architects have gained planning approval for a 120m tall mixed use tower at Vauxhall Cross. This property development accommodates 178 residential units and 250,000sqft of office space.
