2017 New London Architecture Charity Cycle Ride

Charity cycle ride to UKCW 2017 builds support for youth in construction

• Titans of architecture and construction to form a fundraising peloton for Construction Youth Trust on a 125.7 mile marathon from London to the NEC

• Visitors invited to join the initiative and arrive at this must-visit industry event, 10th to 12th October, by pedal power.

• Lycra is optional but attendance at the show’s Beer Festival is advised

After a successful campaign last year, New London Architecture Chairman, Peter Murray is once again joining forces with a small group of other keen cyclists to ride 125.7 miles from London to Birmingham. In aid of the Construction Youth Trust, which works with young people across England and Wales to help them overcome barriers and find work or training in the construction industry, this marathon effort dovetails beautifully with the skills initiative at the heart of UKCW philosophy.

Nathan Garnet, Director of UK Construction Week says, “This effort puts some amazing energy – quite literally – behind a fantastic programme, and makes a wonderful way for us to celebrate opening the show. Once again, Peter will help George Clarke cut the ribbon and usher in three days of networking, knowledge sharing and product launches among the brightest and best of the industry. Peter is a brilliant ambassador for UKCW, and his ideals and ideas have had a perfect synergy with our core objectives.”

Last year Peter and his construction peloton raised nearly £10,000 for CYT, and they are aiming to at least double that in 2017. “We’ll do the ride at a steady pace riding 90 miles on Monday October 9 and the rest on Tuesday morning, following an early start so that we are at Birmingham’s NEC in time for the opening ceremony of UK Construction Week. We will also be promoting the work of the Construction Industry Cycling Commission and the work it is doing to ensure a road safety culture is embedded across the industry.”

Pete and UKCW hope to encourage generous donations to help the Trust in their work inspiring young people into the industry, and helping them gain access to work placements, apprenticeships, and employment. Other riders in the team include: Architect Chris Dyson, Sadie Morgan, HS2 Design Panel Chair, Alex Naraian, President Elect of CIAT, Nigel Ostime of Hawkins Brown and Chair of the RIBA’s Client Liaison Group, Rob Price and Martin Walsh from Perkins and Will, Sam Baxter from Tsunami Axis, Ben Cousins, Timo Haedrich.

Flooring Workshop (FITA):
In conjunction with the Flooring Industry Training Association, leading Master Fitters have been recruited for informative presentations covering all areas of contract flooring, including wood, carpet, vinyl, laminate, tools and accessories.
