Spitalfields Buildings – key recent architecture development in this historic area on the Northeast side of the capital’s financial district. Projects include Norton Folgate Spitalfields City Continuity Community designed by Burrell Foley Fischer Architects.
Liverpool Street Station
This railway station, also known as London Liverpool Street, is a central London railway terminus and connected London Underground station in the north-eastern corner of the City of London. It was opened in 1874 as a replacement for the Great Eastern Railway’s main London terminus, Bishopsgate station, which was subsequently converted into a goods yard.
The UK government has granted the remaining Broadgate development a certficate of immunity from listing. Previously – in July 2011 – the bulk of the buildings were given this status but not all.
The Barbican Centre has been voted London’s ‘ugliest building’. But look at the beautiful landscaping and the intelligent density – kids playing basketball under residential blocks (below), noise accepted to the benefit of easy access to healthy sport and places to hang out and get away from polluted streets.
