London Festival of Architecture launches design competition for 2019 Festival

RIBA launches open call to design London Festival of Architecture installation on theme of ‘Boundaries’
The RIBA is inviting architects and architecture students to design a temporary installation for the Architecture Gallery at the RIBA at 66 Portland Place, London. The installation will be on show from 4 June through to August 2019, alongside a programme of talks and events, as part of the London Festival of Architecture (LFA).

The 2019 LFA theme is ‘Boundaries’. The theme of ‘boundaries’ is open to interpretation, with no prescribed brief for how the gallery is to be animated. Submissions could take the form of a built installation, a set of architectural sculptures, sound pieces or a film.
Experimentation and imaginative thinking are encouraged and architects and students are welcome to develop ideas as a collaborative endeavour with an artist or designer.

The total budget for installation production and material is £22,000 plus a £3,000 design fee incl. VAT. All work – including material and construction costs, as well as ongoing maintenance costs – must be feasible within this budget. In-gallery interpretation graphics and marketing will be covered by a separate budget. Travel expenses will be offered to selected architects based outside the local area, as necessary.

The project is open to all RIBA Members, Chartered Practices and architecture students (for whom membership is free). Entry to the open call requires a named individual project leader who is a RIBA Member or employed by an RIBA Chartered Practice.
