Final phase for Greenwich Millennium Village by Jestico + Whiles unanimously approved by Royal Borough of Greenwich
Jestico + Whiles’ design for a further 500 homes and 5,000m² of commercial space on Greenwich Peninsula has been approved, marking the final two residential plots and completion of the Greenwich Millennium Village masterplan.
Having designed all phases of this unique development since their appointment, Jestico + Whiles has brought to fruition a flagship London neighborhood which purposefully blends living, work and leisure, on the historic peninsula.
Currently totaling 1,800 homes, a community hub and commercial space, the newly approved plans will enhance the existing facilities and strengthen its position as a recognizable and special destination in south east London. The scheme delivers a riverside community with a strong emphasis on street life, framed within its network of green square and avenues
The final phase sits on a rare and complex brownfield site bounded by the historic wharfs which reflect the area’s industrial heritage. The new plots will continue the playful evolutionary tradition of the local architectural language while also providing attractive homes, excellent amenities and beautiful open spaces.
Designed true to the spirit and intentions of the original vision by Ralph Erskine, Jestico + Whiles’ plans for this final phase continue their innovative touch on each plot, resulting in a residential scheme which is rich in variety. The plans follow a collaborative discussion on the ways in which people inhabit modern urban life and how these spaces continue to evolve. Particular focus was placed on providing a range in dwelling types, supporting a broad, inclusive social mix and a strong, diverse community.
James Dilley, Director, Jestico + Whiles added: “The Greenwich Millennium Village project is a testament to our dedication to provide outstanding residential design which brings the best out of communities. Through our work on all stages of GMV over the last decade, we have conceived a new living, working and socialising neighborhood through expert design. The scheme is a key element in our portfolio And is one of the several significant and exciting schemes that are driving our current focus on mixed-use developments, and blended-use buildings. It also advances our particular specialism in unlocking optimum potential of challenging brown field sites.
