Penoyre & Prasad wins planning for a new model of integrated living for over 55s

Penoyre & Prasad has been granted planning approval for Hampshire’s first purpose-built health and well-being campus for over 55s. In line with Hampshire County Council’s ‘Ageing Well’ strategy, the Oak Park Health & Wellbeing Campus will offer a new approach to the provision of desirable accommodation for over 55s. The client is the consortium ‘Hampshire Living Space’ led by Extra Care housing and health property partner, Ashley House Plc.

The 13,600sqm scheme comprises an 80-bed nursing home, 51 affordable Extra Care flats and 48 affordable and market-supported living apartments with a shared community hub at its heart. Designed on a domestic scale around a series of landscaped courtyard spaces, the development will provide a wide range of tenures to ensure a sustainable and mixed community.

Greg Penoyre from Penoyre & Prasad said, “The Oak Park Health and Well-being Campus is a new model of integrated living and care for elderly people which will provide for a range of residents’ needs and make a positive contribution to the wider local community. The design sets out to make an enjoyable and sustainable environment with inviting, human scaled buildings set in rich and active landscaped gardens.”

The Extra Care scheme and the supported living apartments all have access to private outdoor space and shared community gardens. The nursing home has been designed around a secure and sheltered courtyard with accommodation in a series of 10 bed clusters, each with their own lounge dining and support spaces. The nursing home and Extra Care housing also have direct internal access to the shared Central Hub which will serve both residents and visitors.

“Construction of the new campus is due to begin in 2016,” said Jonathan Holmes, Commercial Director for Ashley House. “We have been working with the local community and local Councils to realise what is a very innovative scheme, joining health and social care together in one location, to facilitate better outcomes for all”.
