A doctor from Bangladesh has scooped top prize in the Art of Building digital photography competition, run by the Chartered Institute of Building since 2010.
Daredevil by Ata Adnan received 29% of the thousands of votes cast by the public to choose this year’s winner. He said, “My wife is an architect and she has been a constant support throughout my photographic journey. To win such a renowned prize feels like a beautiful blend of the things that matter to us. I have always liked photographing architecture but particularly with a human element involved. So when I saw that child suddenly get up on top of the bridge and start to walk on it I wanted to capture the moment as best as I could.“
As well as the title of ‘Art of Building Photographer of the Year,’ Ata Adnan’s image has also earned him a cash prize of £3,000. Which according to the award-winning photographer he will donate a portion of to a Bangladesh charity that supports children in extreme poverty. This year, the judging panel included broadcaster, photography critic and editor, Sue Steward; award-winning photographer Matt Wain, and Tom Ravenscroft deputy editor of Construction Manager magazine.
