Looking at some of the oldest Pakistani structures, we have witnessed the traditional high roofs, skylights, spacious uncovered areas around the house become narrower and more compressed. Now, people prefer modern designs that offer limited space – but their smart execution makes them more productive.


Every year, some new interior design trend takes over the world. For example, minimalism became quite popular in the last few decades. But some designing elements have gained global recognition and feature noticeably in modern industrial productions.

In Pakistan, for example, skylights, built right under the roof, were used for the purpose of ventilation. Now, homeowners construct large windows instead. Additionally, they request architects to design floor plans in order to perpetuate an airy environment within their home spaces.

Similarly, modern Pakistani homes encourage more use of natural light than the artificial ‘bulb’ variety. The large windows also help in meeting this demand. But both better ventilation and natural light have become a necessity for the country; given its crises of electricity and mostly warm weather.

Like the rest of the world, the trend of smaller homes has also begun to prevail in Pakistan. The different rooms may feel compact but smarter floor plans and simpler interior decorating gives the illusion of space. In the olden times, the locals were fond of large and elaborate furnishings. This trend has now shifted to more chic and sleeker options. Most people have also stopped laying down large carpets in favour of beautifully tiled floors.


Just like the interior of a home, the exterior design is as important. In fact, people love the idea of a good curb appeal as is common in other countries. But due to the preference of smaller homes, modern constructions are skipping large verandas, corridors, garages, and terraces.

Modern homes also come with unique siding materials – something old Pakistani homes lacked. The sidings not only add a strong protective layer to a house’s exterior, but enhance its curb appeal as well.

It is not only tangible home designing and construction elements that have evolved. The use of modern technologies is what makes such transitions easily possible. Following global trends, engineers are hired to make homes heat and cold resistant and architects who use advanced software to plan house designs.

Due to the spreading awareness of social and environmental responsibility, developers in Pakistan also invest in greener methods of home construction. This includes building houses that are energy efficient, materials that are not toxic to the environment, and ways to cut the negative impact of the construction processes.

Global real estate trends have also inspired changes in the commercial developmental process in Pakistan. As cities have become more urbanised, authorities concerned are now encouraging high-rise buildings. In fact, the government of Pakistan plans to boost vertical expansion, along with the delivery of amenities to support it sufficiently.

Another trend taking roots in the commercial real estate industry of Pakistan is prefabricated constructions. The technology is gaining popularity because it makes it easier to build taller buildings. On the other hand, it cuts down the on-site work, which is good for the environment.

Pakistan has consciously joined the movement to tackle issues responsible for deteriorating the environment. Therefore, local developers and builders have been eager to adopt green constructions. For this purpose, they use technologies that minimise the carbon footprint of buildings along with developmental models that reduce the use of natural fuel sources.

Pakistan Real Estate Development – Infrastructure

Currently, infrastructure forms one of the major sectors for investment around the globe. Countries are trying to build highly urbanised but sustainable cities. The infrastructural projects are meant to uplift the economy, provide better facilities to the public, and support the environment. For example, the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in Pakistan is supposed to resolve the congestion issues as well as minimise emissions into the city air.
