Architecture competition win in 1997 to redesign the Museum of Modern Art, beating nine other internationally renowned architects. This was the first commission outside of Japan by this celebrated Japanese architectural firm.
The 630,000 sqft renovation, rebuilding and expansion project: a new through-block entry connecting 53rd and 54th Streets reinforces the Museum’s integration within its urban context. Galleries are vertically organized around a central atrium space, each a separate museum within a museum.
