Noll & Tam is working closely with the City of Los Altos’ Project Task Force to design the new $24.75 million Los Altos Community Center ($34.7 million project cost) which will integrate with the surrounding public facilities to meet the current and future needs of the multi-generational community.
The 24,500-square-foot building will include a café, arts and crafts room, movement room, community room, senior room, teen room, kinder prep room, offices, conference rooms, and a kitchen for staff.
The design maximizes the available outdoor spaces with pedestrian pathways, patios, a central courtyard, bocce ball and basketball courts, and a new nature play area, as well as connections to adjacent public facilities.
Architecturally, the building will employ vernacular regional forms and feature a mix of natural finishes and materials such as natural wood and stone to evoke the California landscape. In addition to including parking spaces near the senior center, the plans include an estimated 80 slots of bike parking.
The design is targeting LEED Gold equivalency. The center will be an all-electric building with solar panels that will to provide onsite power production. The project is estimated to be completed by the end of 2020.

Two rectilinear, cantilevered forms defined by planes of stucco form an L-configuration that orients this house to open out to its rear yard and view of the hills. Linear slot windows provide scale and lightness to the long, horizontal forms.
